The history of life and work of Quentin Tarantino (part 1)
The future director was born on March 27, 1963. Quentin was an illegitimate child of the sixteen -year -old Connie McHu, who at that time a nurse, and actor and musician Tony Tarantino. From this union he got from his mother Irish roots and the roots of the Indian tribe of Cheroka, and from the father Italian. Parents soon divorced, since Connie did not have any special feelings for Tony, but got married only to show her female independence. Having learned about pregnancy, Connie does not make any attempts to get in touch with the biological father.
Initially, my mother wanted to reward her son by the name of Quint, in honor of the hero of the cowboy series “Smoke of shooting” Quintus Asper, but later decided to name him Quentin. What is noteworthy, initially it was a female name, Quentina, which was worn by the heroine of William Faulkner’s novel “Noise and rage”.
At the age of two years, Connie, together with his son, moved to Los Angeles, in which Quentin began to go to the junior secondary school of Fleming and simultaneously engaged in drama lessons. By that time, Connie re -married Kurt, she interceded, a local musician who adopted Quentin and gave him his last name, but in the future the director would refuse to return the original, Tarantino, which seemed to him more suitable for the future career of the actor.
Quentin was an avid movie and spent many hours in front of the TV reviewing almost everything in a row that they twisted, in particular, various series and television shows. At an early age, he watched films such as “Cognition of the Flesh”, “deliverance” and, his beloved, “Ebbott and Costello meets Frankenstein”, who, by the way, had a rating of +17 and, possibly, were reflected in the future on the director and his work.
In the eighth year of Quentin’s life, his mother divorced her husband again. But the child did not fall in spirit, rather, on the contrary, his interest in cinema has invariably grew. Despite the obvious giftedness in the theater craft, in his studies he did not achieve similar successes. He did not like training at a private, paid Christian school and, from the condition of his mother, that he would find a job, at the age of fifteen, Quentin abandoned his studies. His first work was the work of a ticket in one of the cinema halls in Torrans, which twisted pornography. But Tarantino did not receive any pleasure from this (although it would seem!).
“Most teenagers think:“ Cool, I’m in a porno theater!” – But I did not like porn films. I liked the real movie, and not that is nasty and cheap.”
To compensate for the lack of experience, Quentin wrote about the work in his “dawn of the dead” and “King of Lear” in his resume, which was a clear lie. In the twenty-second year, he got a job at the video rental point on Manhattan Beach. At this point, he met Roger Everi, who will continue to become a co-scenarist of the “Mad Dogs” and “Crime Fix”. This work allowed him to pay attention to the preferences of visitors and this will help for the future experience of the director.
The first projects

On one Hollywood party, Tarantino met Lawrence Bender, the future producer of most of his works, who persuaded him to start writing scripts. The first scenario was written in 1985 and had the name “Captain Pichfuz and anchous bandit”, but did not reach the implementation. For several years, Quentin wandered from a studio to the studio in attempts to offer them his work, but met a refusal, in particular due to the fact that he demanded his own implementation.
In 1987, Tarantino nevertheless began the filming of the amateur film “Birthday of my best friend” as a co-scenarist and director. During the installation, in the laboratory, a fire broke out, destroying the most part of the coil with the film. Part of the script of this film formed the basis of the film “True Love”.
After all these events, Quentin began working on his next project – “Mad Dogs”. Tarantino wrote a script for the film for three and a half weeks, which was ready to shoot with a minimum budget, proceeded by expense from the sale of the script of “true love”. Lawrence Bender directed this script Monte Hellman – director of the favorite Western Quentin “Escape to nowhere”. Hellman helped Tarantino provide funding from Live Entertainment (which later became Artisan, now known as Lionsgate).
Lawrence Bender at that time took acting lessons from Peter Flur. In a conversation with his teacher, he mentioned a new film that was going to producing. Flur was half -noisy asked who Bender wanted to take off in the title role.
“If you choose from all actors in the world, then this guy will be Harvey Keitel”.
By a successful coincidence, Peter Flur’s wife knew Harvey. It was decided to give her the script of the “frantic dogs”, which she, in turn, handed over to Keitel. Harvey Keitel, who read the script, took on the role of the co-producer and helped with financing, and also played a role in this film.
Before starting the filming, two -week rehearsals were carried out in order to save filming time and film. If you watch the movie carefully, you can see that Steve Buscami (Mr. Pink), during the pursuit of the police, goes to the green traffic light signal. Tarantino admonished the actor as follows:
“Oh, do the following: take out a gun, discharge into a cop, jump into the car and, if the light is green, you will take away.”
In an interview with an interview, Connie entered (Tarantino’s mother) said that the phrase Reservoir Dogs arose from a ridiculous situation when Tarantino’s girlfriend called him to watch the film “Goodbye, Children”, but he refused to pronounce Reservoir Dogs instead of the French Au Revoir Les Enfants.
Quentin Tarantino’s debut in cinema was met extremely positively, a perfectly selected cast and an interesting manner of narrative were noted. But at the same time, the film was criticized for excessively realistic scenes of violence. There were cases that during the session, in particular, in the scene of cutting ear to a policeman, people left the cinema hall.
Nevertheless, Tarantino declared himself as a talented director and in the future only reinforced this opinion with his next film.
Pulp Fiction
Shortly after the release of “Frantic Dogs”, Tom Scott’s film “True Love” is released on the screens, and a year later Oliver Stone’s film “Incouraged killers” saw the light of which was accompanied by a scandal. The scenarios of these both films were written by Tarantino and later sold to directors. Oliver Stone blocked the initial script so much that the indignant Tarantino demanded to remove his name as the author of the script, agreeing to the postscript “on the plot of Quentin Tarantino”.
After his major filmage, Quentin began to ponder his next project. In the process of writing a script for the future film, he based on a couple with Lawrence Bender founded the company “A Band Apart”, specializing in filming films and writing musical accompaniment to them. Due to the strength of this company, they were widely used for the filming of the “criminal reading” ..
